Obama = Paris Hilton?
To add to the ridiculous campaign advertising, McCain’s camp issued this ad today, which equates Obama with a high-maintenance celebrity, like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton. There’s nothing positive or constructive here, only a ridiculous caricature. McCain is clearly grasping at straws.
Obama camp’s response: “On a day when major news organizations across the country are taking Senator McCain to task for a steady stream of false, negative attacks, his campaign has launched yet another,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said. “Or, as some might say, ‘Oops! He did it again.’ Our dependence on foreign oil is one of the greatest challenges we face. In this election the American people have a real choice — between Obama’s plan to provide tax rebates to American families while creating a renewable energy economy in America that frees us from our dependence on foreign oil, and Senator McCain’s plan to continue the same failed energy policies by handing out nearly $4 billion in tax breaks to oil companies while investing almost nothing in the new energy sources that represent our future.”
I just need to register my extreme disappointment with McCain and Company. Normally, I try to keep the language reasonable—but some things are just too much. If you are a McCain supporter, do not feel obligated to read the rest of this. Don’t worry. I too have supported candidates I was sometimes ashamed of.
Earth to McCain! If Americans—particularly young Americans—are more interested in our political leaders than they are in Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, how DARE you imply this is a bad thing? A month ago Obama was too elitist. Now he’s too accessible? If the rest of the world admires the competence and eloquence of one of our leaders, be happy. This sort of image-based smear ad evinces an inability to separate the good from the bad.
That smug smile from McCain at the end was priceless…
